November 2015 Comic Bento Unboxing
I enjoy comic books and graphic novels, so I was happy to see the Comic Bento on my doorstep the other night! They promise $60+ in value. I was interested to see if this claim was correct and whether I’d be interested in the books they provided.
The first book I took out of the box was Penny Arcade Volume 1: Attack of the Bacon Robots! As a web comic fan, I was happy to see this. When a lot of people think about comic books, they envision super heroes and other, more serious-themed, works. It was nice to receive a humorous book that originated from something independent rather than corporate. The book has an MSRP of $12.95.
The second book in the box was Tomb Raider Volume 1: Season of the Witch. As a Tomb Raider fan, I was pleased with this selection. I also appreciated the book’s cover art and thickness; it feels like a sturdy, high-quality graphic novel. The MSRP of the book is $19.99.
Although I was happy to see some comics that weren’t about superheroes, that didn’t mean I wanted superheroes to be excluded from the box! I therefore approved of the box’s third item, which was a Marvel Super Hero: Contest of Champions #1 comic book. I favor Marvel over DC, so this suited my interested well. The MSRP is $7.99.
The fourth and final comic in the box was volume one of a crossover between Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man titled Worlds Collide. I grew up with both of these characters and I’m interested in seeing how they interact together. This book is also rated favorably on sites like Amazon. The MSRP is $11.99.
Overall, the value of the comics in the box came out to $52.92. This amount is below the $60 threshold that Comic Bento promises, but I’m okay with that - it’s still much higher than the box’s maximum cost of $20. In this situation, you’re getting comics worth more than double the amount you paid. I also enjoyed the selection of comics that Comic Bento provided, which included a variety of genres, fandoms, and publishers. As such, I think Comic Bento is a box that many types of people can enjoy and that subscribers will be happy with the items they receive.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary box for reviewing purposes.
