September 2016 Esian Mall Beauty Box Review + Giveaway
I discovered Esian Mall back in June. They began as a store for Asian products, but have recently introduced two subscription boxes to their product variety: a beauty box and a snack box. Although the snack box was great, I decided not to continue with it because it didn’t fit my eating regimen. However, I’ve continued getting and enjoying the beauty box.
You can read my previous Esian Mall reviews here:
Last month, Esian Mall began themeing their boxes based on popular geek and nerd fandoms. I believe this is a great way for them to differentiate themselves from other Asian beauty boxes. The theme mostly applies to one or two items in each box, so people who are not fond of the theme will still get a variety of Asian beauty products relevant to their interests. This month’s theme was The Walking Dead in preparation for Halloween, because the September boxes are sent out through the end of the month and may arrive in October for some subscribers.
The first item in the September 2016 Esian Mall Beauty Box was a brown eyebrow pencil from Koji’s Spring Heart line. My eyebrows are somehow simultaneously thin and unruly, so I have been looking for new ways to tame them. This product seems like it could prove invaluable to my beauty routine for that reason, and I’m excited to use it.

The second item was a bottle of foam cleansing scrub from Biore. I thought this was an interesting product because Biore is a common brand in the US, although this particular product is from Japan. I already have a cleanser I use regularly, but I might give this a try because I think the foaming feature could be fun.

The third item was a set of exclusive “The Walking Dead” nail wraps from NailThins.com. This is, clearly, the themed item for the month. Although I haven’t personally watched The Walking Dead, I’ve heard good things about it and I know it’s a very popular show. As such, I believe these nail decals will prove popular. Even for people who don’t watch the show, the bloody hands and zombies are a great display for the upcoming Halloween holiday.

The fourth item was an Anti-Aging Treatment Mask from Leaders. Subscribers could’ve received one of three masks: Illuminating, Anti-Aging, or Hydrating. I’m happy with the Anti-Aging one; it’s not one of my primary concerns at the moment, but it’s something that’s best to start before it’s needed to prevent future damage.
Estimated value: $3 (Source: EsianMall.com)
The fifth and final item was a pouch of Tabino Yado Bath Salts. I love the design of this package and I look forward to simulating the feeling of a Japanese hot spring in my bathtub (to the extent that it’s possible.)
Estimated value: $1 (Source: Amazon.com.)
Overall, the September 2016 Esian Mall Beauty Box contained about $22 worth of items. This is the first time that the box’s value has fallen below its $25 cost. I think this discrepancy arose because Esian Mall valued the nail wraps at over $10; however, there are no nail wraps worth more than $10 on the NailThins website, so I have trouble justifying that value.
Although the lower value is a bit disappointing, I’m still happy with the box overall. The value is close enough to the box cost that the difference can be attributed to shipping costs, where if you had to pay for shipping for each product you would end up paying much more than $22. Furthermore, I appreciate the box’s variety. Not only did it include a selection of makeup, skincare, and spa products, but it also had a fun fandom-themed beauty product (nail decals) that were exclusive to the box.
I noticed that there is no theme listed for October, so I’m wondering if perhaps there will not be themes in the future. I personally enjoy the themes, but ultimately I encourage Esian Mall to do whatever performs best for their company.
Overall, Esian Mall is still my favorite Asian beauty box. Historically it has provided a good value for a great selection of products, and the themes add to the fun. They also offer rewards programs that allow you to earn points when making purchases that you can redeem for future boxes and products. I look forward to seeing what Esian Mall offers in the future.
