October 2016 Tombox Review
In my endless search for low-cost, high-value subscription boxes, I decided to try Tombox (formerly known as SwaagBox.) Tombox costs as low as $10 a month while delivering jewelry, makeup, and pads/tampons (as needed), among other items. The box was originally designed to deliver supplies for your period, but there is also a “No Flow” option that does not include period products, and that’s the one I picked.
Upon registering, they had me fill out a personal preference survey so thorough that I wasn’t sure what to expect when I received the box. Could it really deliver as much value and variety as it seemed to promise?
Aside from ensuring all items are secure and safe, packaging does not appear to be a priority for Tombox. The items arrived in a generic envelope without any branding at all (I printed out the Tombox logo and taped it to the front of the package.) Although it’s usually nice to get branded packaging, I didn’t mind the generic packaging as long as the box delivered good value. I’d rather my money went toward tangible items than packaging that I’d end up throwing away.
The first item in the October 2016 Tombox was an 8.8ml roller from Harvey Prince Organic Perfume in a “Bailando” scent. Wowza! Only one item so far, and it’s already worth more than twice the cost of the box!
Additionally, the scent is a mixture of vanilla and orange that perfectly fit the preferences I put in my personal survey.
So far I’m impressed, and that’s only one item down!

The second item was a full-size cream eyeshadow from Bodyography in a “Glitz” variety. This is a fairly unique eyeshadow in that it is intensely pigmented and features both gold and silver hues. Additionally, the makeup is cruelty-free and vegan.
Yet another high-value item, and I like to experiment with different eyeshadows in my videos, so I look forward to using this.

The third item was a pouch of Voesh NY Pink Grapefruit Salt Soak. This is closer to the type of item I expected in this box, and combined with the wonderful items I received so far, I’m more than happy with it. What intrigues me about this particular soak is that it is designed for pedicures vs. a regular bath salt, so I’m planning to use it for that purpose. It’s also nice that it’s scented like grapefruit.

The fourth item was a beautiful turquoise crystal necklace. The item is unbranded, but it looks fancy and could stand on par with some designer jewelry I’ve seen.
I don’t actually have many turquoise jewelry pieces, so this was nice to receive.
Estimated value: $17 (Source: Etsy.com/StargazeJewelry.com)
The fifth item was a pair of unbranded tweezers. These weren’t listed on the info card either, so I wonder if they were a bonus item, or were added by accident? The value is low enough that I wouldn’t be bothered if they had been excluded, but they are also valuable in their own way from their usefulness. I only had one pair of tweezers before, so this will be nice to put in my purse in case I have any random hairs that need emergency tweezing while I’m away from home.
Estimated value: $2 (Source: Estimate)
The sixth and final “item” was a set of three sea salt caramels from Little Red Hen. These caramels were absolutely delicious! Also, being on a healthy eating regimen, I appreciated the portioned serving; it provided just enough sweetness to satisfy my cravings without enticing me to eat more than I should have.
Estimated value: $3 (Source: LittleRedHenCandy.com)
Overall, the October 2016 Tombox contained about $63 worth of products. For a box that costs $10, that is an amazing value!!!
Even more so, I LOVED the variety. It was a perfect mix of everything I want, down to the satisfying but not oversized portion of sweets. Tombox did a great job of matching my items to the preferences I identified in the survey I filled out when I joined.
When purchasing the box, I used a Visa gift card because I’d only intended to get one box for the sake of reviewing it. However, I love the box so much that I hope to continue my subscription in future months.
