October 2016 SquareHearts Review
Last month, I reviewed the September 2016 SquareHearts box. I thought it offered a wonderful selection of items and I loved how it provided a full outfit that I was able to keep. I paid for that particular box, but after posting the review, I was invited to review an additional box. I chose this month’s box, the October 2016 SquareHearts box. Let’s see how it compared to September!
The first item in the box was a simple, white jersey soft American Apparel tee. It’s difficult to say much about this item because it’s so simple, but that’s what makes it practical; it can be worn with almost anything. Practicality is one of the top things I’d hope for in a fashion box.
Estimated value: $18 (Source: AmericanApparel.net)
The second item was an American Apparel-branded tri-blend raglan pullover sweatshirt. This is a nice blue color that doesn’t show up well in the photo above; for this box, I urge you more than normal to watch the unboxing video so you can see the items from multiple angles.
This is a cozy sweatshirt that will be perfect once it gets a bit colder. Based both on this month so far and last month, it’s clear that SquareHearts takes the seasons into account and tries to deliver clothing that can be used in the current or upcoming months.
Estimated value: $38 (Source: AmericanApparel.net)
The third item was a pair of black boy shorts from Mamia. This was an interesting item to get because I didn’t expect underwear in a SquareHearts box. But it’s just as useful as anything else, and because I value utility, I’m happy to have gotten it. The material is stretchy, so it fits a multitude of body types.
Estimated value: $2 (Source: Walmart.com/Amazon.com)
The fourth item was a perfect match for the boy shorts: a seamless sports bra from Mamia. I was at first skeptical of this item’s practicality as a sports bra, but after putting it on, I found that it was more supportive than I expected. I’m not sure I’d wear it during a marathon, but I think it is a great choice for either low-impact exercises or simply lounging around the house.
Estimated value: $3 (Source: Walmart.com/Ebay.com)
The fifth item was a pair of black leggings from Mopas. Leggings are a fall staple, so they were a great pick for this box. I’m picky about leggings because my ankles get irritated by certain materials, but I was able to wear these without getting a rash.
Here’s a close-up of the material inside of the legging. It’s fleece, which typically irritates my skin, but this particular pair of fleece leggings was comfortable.
Estimated value: $7 (Source: Amazon.com/Gliks.com)
The sixth item was a 30 count pack of Skinlite Makeup Cleansing Tissues. I use makeup-removing wipes all the time - not just for removing makeup, but also for wiping off sweat after a workout and cleaning off the day’s dirt before going to bed. With that being the case, I’m always happy to receive makeup wipes, because I know I’ll put them to use. These tissues seem a bit flimsier than the wipes I normally use (probably why they're called "tissues" rather than "wipes), but they’re durable enough that I’ve been able to use them as part of my beauty routine.
Estimated value: $7 (Source: Amazon.com/Rakuten.com)
The seventh and final item was a sample size of Squalane Facial Oil from Indie Lee. I haven’t actually used facial oil before, but it’s said to “promote skin elasticity, diminish age spots, and boost cell regeneration and oxygenation”, which are all good things.
Estimated value: $3 (Source: IndieLee.com/BeautyLish.com)
Overall, the October 2016 SquareHearts box provided $78 worth of items. For a box that cost $50, this is a great value.
In terms of variety, I was happy with the items delivered in the October 2016 SquareHearts box. I was once again provided with a full outfit, as demonstrated in the fine artwork titled “Bathroom Selfie” that is presented below:
(Note: The photo above depicts the items immediately after they were taken out of the box, which is why some are wrinkled.)
This is a comfy outfit, perfect for fall. More than that, it was nice to get some underwear pieces as well, because those are a clothing item that is sometimes overlooked in fashion boxes. And in addition to all of the fashion, the box also included the makeup tissues and facial oil.
All in all, I appreciated this box even more than the September box; I liked that it focused more on fashion/clothing items and I thought the items fit together even better than in September.
I personally don’t plan to continue my subscription simply because I already have enough clothes, but if you are someone who is in need of more clothes, I wholeheartedly recommend SquareHearts. If you’re interested in giving it a try, you can get a free beauty kit worth $100 added to your subscription by going here and adding the free kit to your cart.
