October 2016 Esian Mall Beauty Box Review
I discovered Esian Mall back in June. They began as a store for Asian products, but have recently introduced two subscription boxes to their product variety: a beauty box and a snack box. Although the snack box was great, I decided not to continue with it because it didn’t fit my eating habits. However, I’ve continued getting and enjoying the beauty box.

Esian Mall recently started theming their subscription boxes, starting with a Pokemon Go theme in July, a Suicide Squad theme in August, and a The Walking Dead theme in September. I appreciate the themes, because I think they help differentiate the Esian Mall beauty box from other Asian beauty boxes. To fit the theme, the box usually includes one themed product along with an array of more general Asian beauty products.
The theme for October was a seasonally appropriate “Halloween”.
The first item in the October 2016 Esian Mall Beauty Box was a Dress Code Blue Face Mask from MediHeal. This is a neat item because it actually resembles a masquerade mask, fitting the Halloween theme, while also offering the benefits of a facial mask. According to reviews I’ve read of this particular product, it is comfortable to use and has a skin hydrating effect.

The second item in the box was an animal-print Warming Eye Mask from SNP. This is another fun-looking item that also has a practical use. My eyes get fatigued easily, so I am really looking forward to trying this!

The third item was what I would consider the primary “theme” product of the box - a Batman choker from Bioworld! I was really surprised to see this because I was at Stan Lee’s Comic Con right before I opened this box, and there were plenty of Bioworld fashion accessories there. They were fairly pricey, so I was surprised to find one in this box. It was a happy surprise, of course!
In terms of fitting the box theme, I wouldn’t immediately equate Halloween with Batman, but I can understand Esian Mall wanting to keep it a secret for the month. In terms of fitting the box variety, although it is not a beauty product, it is a fashion accessory that I think can be enjoyed by people who enjoy beauty products. I like that Esian Mall mixes up the theme item every month as long as the rest of the items are still true to the box’s beauty nature.

The fourth item in the box was a Tina Tint Lip Essence Balm from Fascy. Esian Mall included a Fascy item in the June box as well, and I really like the branding and packaging design for Fascy products - it looks high-end. The price often is too.
I tried the lip balm during my unboxing video and it did a great job adding a tint to my lips while providing moisture. There’s not much more to ask for from a product like this, so I was satisfied.
Estimated value: $10 (Source: Ebay.ie / Amazon.com)
The fifth and final item of the box was a “Have a Green Grape” cleansing foam from IT’S SKIN. I have a weird situation in which I think I might be allergic to grapes, so I’m not sure I’ll personally try this product. That’s such an abnormal issue, though, that I believe most people who get the product will be able to put it to use just fine.

Overall, the October 2016 EsianMall Beauty Box contained about $31 worth of items. For a box that costs $25 with $5 shipping, this is a fair value and it is on par with the average value of the beauty boxes of the past few months. At the same time, the box cost has increased this month because EsianMall now charges for shipping. It’s a bummer from the subscriber side to now have to pay for shipping, but I would rather that EsianMall provides a fair value at a fair cost and remain sustainable than provide a great value at a low cost and go out of business. I expect that EsianMall analyzed their situation and realized they needed to charge shipping to continue delivering the same level of quality; I can support that decision as long as the box quality continues to be high.
Aside from the item value, I also consider the product variety when analyzing the quality of a box. I was happy with the product variety this month. As mentioned earlier, I like that EsianMall includes a primary non-beauty themed item with the array of beauty products to add to the surprise of the box. The beauty products themselves included a combination of makeup and skincare products, which I think is an ideal combination for such a box.
I am super excited for the November box, because it will feature a Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them theme! I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and I’m looking forward to seeing the movie, so I’m intrigued to see how the film will be incorporated into next month’s beauty box.
