May 2016 Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome Review
I subscribed to the Monthly Mystery Box from That Daily Deal (aka Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome) back in March, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite subscription boxes. Although it’s comprised of overstocked items from That Daily Deal, giving it the potential to be junk, I’ve been happy with the selection of products I received in previous months.
You can check out my previous reviews:
Was this month as good as the previous ones? Let’s find out!
The first item this month was a set of a blanket and pillow with a faux-fur cow print design. I LOVED this. I’d just been thinking about getting a new blanket, so the timing was perfect. I can’t ask much more from a box than to deliver me the items I need when I need them, can I? I only needed the blanket, but the matching pillow is a nice bonus. I couldn’t find this set for sale currently online, but it’s previously sold for $15 on That Daily Deal, so that’s the value I’ll assign.
The second item was a set of Iron Man 3 wall decals. I probably won’t put this up because it doesn’t match my decor, but I appreciate the item’s inclusion in relation to the recent release of the Captain America: Civil War movie, which heavily features Iron Man. Although these decals are from a previous movie, they still depict the iconic character, and I think they’re still relevant at this time. I expect that subscribers who use wall decals, or who have children that use them, were thrilled to receive this item. The set sells for around $10 on Amazon.
The third item was a set of beverage napkins with a cute “I [mustache] for another drink” slogan on them. I’m not big into mustaches, but napkins are always good to have on hand, so I think this is a good product to have received. I couldn’t find this particular item for sale, but I found other mustache-themed beverage napkins selling for $5 per 16-pack. This pack includes 40 napkins, so I’ve estimated a rough value of $13 for the set.
The fourth item was a non-soggy cereal bowl from Cobble Creek. The non-soggy cereal bowls are a trendy product that also serve a practical purpose, so I’m looking forward to trying this out. I couldn’t find this exact bowl online, but similar bowls from Obol sell for $15.
The fifth item was a BBQ grill light from Yard Play. I don’t host BBQs, but it’s nearing BBQ season, so I believe this item is well-timed. I will probably be giving it to my grandfather, who sometimes grills. This light typically sells for $20.
The sixth item was a 3-piece BBQ utensil set from Yard Play. Again, I don’t host BBQs, and will likely give this to someone who does. I couldn’t find this exact set online, but based on similar ones, I expect it has a value around $5.
The seventh and final item was a worktop protector from Typhoon, a UK company. First of all, I think it’s cool that That Daily Deal included an item from across the pond. Secondly, this is a useful item with a fun design based on the movie JAWs. I considered keeping this for myself because I like it, but my kitchen counter is too small for this type of item. I have a friend whose entire apartment is decorated with movie-themed decor, so I’m gifting it to her and I think it will fit well in her home. This worktop protector sells for around $10.
Overall, the May 2016 That Daily Deal Monthly Mystery Box once again offered extreme value, having contained items worth about $88 collectively. For a box that costs $25 with free shipping, that’s an amazing deal.
In terms of selection, the box won me over right from the beginning with the blanket and pillow set. I also plan to use some of the other items, including the beverage napkins and cereal bowl. Aside from that, I’ve determined that the Monthly Mystery Box is also a great way to accumulate items to give as gifts to people who will get better use out of them.
All in all, I once again enjoyed the That Daily Deal Monthly Mystery Box and I look forward to seeing what I’ll get in June.
