March 2016 Meowbox Review
I entered a giveaway for the March 2016 meowbox on the Reviews, Chews, and How-tos blog and was lucky enough to have won! I was happy to be chosen and Annabeth, my cat, was even happier to receive the goodies outlined below.
The first item was a chili pepper toy from BeWitched Cat Toys. Appearance-wise, the toy is a bit bland, but the catnip inside will ensure your cat falls in love with it. Annabeth loves it for its oblong shape, which allows her to wrap her arms around the top while kicking the bottom with her feet (one of her favorite ways to play with toys…) The designer sells this toy for $5.
The second item was a Maui Meowi Karrot from CatTrees.com. This carrot toy has a clever design and also contains catnip for your cat to enjoy. The designer sells this toy for $6.
The third item was a Petstages Standup Mouse. This is a bit of a silly toy, and neither Annabeth nor I took to it very much despite the toy’s merits (it looks like it was put together well.) This mouse normally sells for $5 at Petco, although it was on sale for $3 when I checked (I’ll be using the $5 price for valuation.)
The fourth item was a 2 oz package of TruFood CocoChia Bakes. Judging from the packaging, these look to be a high-quality brand of cat treats. I haven’t yet fed them to Annabeth because I like to keep her on her current treat brand until the bag runs out, so I’ll be interested to see how she reacts to these treats. The bag typically sells for $5.
The fifth and final item was a pair of Wildlife Sackz from Ruff & Whiskerz, a manufacturer of cat and dog toys. I took one of these out to give to Annabeth and she didn’t seem particularly keen on playing with it, although she is likely overloaded from having received so many new toys in such a short period of time. I appreciate that the package came in a pair so I could give Annabeth one and save the other for another day. These Sackz don’t seem to be for sale anymore, so I’m estimating the price of two at $5 based on other Ruff & Whiskerz toys.
Overall, the March 2016 meowbox contained about $26 in value. The cost of the Meowbox ranges from $22.95 to $32.95 per month based on subscription length, so whether you are getting a good deal depends on the amount you’re paying each month.
I think Annabeth’s avoidance of some of the toys was based on the fact that she’d been spoiled by toys in the recent weeks and doesn’t reflect her opinion of the box’s contents. I appreciated the inclusion of items from both independent designers and mainstream brands. I’m also impressed by meowbox’s longevity; they’ve been in business for years and I expect they’ll continue to thrive.
