February 2016 "DEAD" Level Up Female Wearable Review
I’ve been interested in the Level Up service from Loot Crate for a while, but never took the chance to try it out. But after hearing that this month would feature a Deadpool-themed item from one of my favorite clothing companies, Her Universe, I decided to take the risk.
The item arrived in a black packet. While this packaging is not as impressive as the regular Loot Crate, I think it fits the Level Up service well. There’s no need for a wasteful, fancy box to carry a single clothing item.
I opened the packet, as seen in the video above, and...I wasn’t too impressed with the top, honestly. I should probably begin the item review by stating that I dislike repeating patterns. Polka dots are my nemesis. The only time I can forgive a repeating pattern, such as the one I had on my initial shirt in the video, is when other accents (such as the faux leather lining) can balance the pattern. In the case of this Deadpool top, the pattern takes up the entire shirt.
Here are some pictures of the top from different vantage points:
Overall, I don’t foresee myself wearing this item regularly, and it’s not something I would’ve bought intentionally. However, it has its plusses and negatives
- Comfortable: The material of the shirt is incredibly comfortable. A friend recommended that I wear it as a sleeping shirt and it’s probable that’s how I’ll end up using it.
- Cut: I really like the cut of the shirt, with the back being longer than the front. The v-neck in the front is also nice. With a different design, I think I’d appreciate this top very much.
- Value: Although I would value this less than the average Her Universe top, which range from $18 to $60, I think it’s a fair value for the $15 I paid.
- Pattern/Design: Kind of ugly, IMO. Not something I’d wear in public.
I think your opinion of the top will come down to whether you like or dislike the design. If you like the design, the shirt should make you happy. If you dislike the design, as I do, you might feel a bit disappointed. However, that is always a risk with mystery boxes. I still believe I received good value for my money and I plan to wear this shirt around my apartment to get some use out of it.
Level Up offers a variety of packages, including those for socks, t-shirts, wearables (what I bought), and female accessories. If you’re interested in any of these, click here and use code “LVL10” to save 10% on your subscription. I’m going to take a break from the service, but I might rejoin in the future depending on the monthly theme and/or designer.
