August 2016 Jacob's Crate Review
Jacob’s Crate is a new subscription box for cats run by an orange fluffball named Jacob DesLaurier and his human Travis DesLaurier. It’s been a while since Annabeth has had a cat box to enjoy, so both she and I were looking forward to seeing what the August box offered.
The first item I took out of the box was a picture! No one can doubt that Jacob is quite an attractive cat...and I suppose Travis is decent-looking too. ;)
It was a nice show of appreciation for Jacob and Travis to include this photo, which is personalized for each subscriber. Although the photo doesn’t have a monetary value, its inclusion certainly adds to the sentimental value of the box.
The second item I took out of this box was a Petstages Frazzled Fairy toy. Annabeth is always a fan of catnip-filled toys, and this one has a cute design. Furthermore, I’ve had Petstages toys before, and they typically hold up well.
Estimated value: $6 (Source: Petco/Amazon.)
The third item was another cat toy, a classic Showgull from Fat Cat. This toy also has catnip inside and I’m sure Annabeth will enjoy playing with the feathers.
Estimated value: $4 (Source: Walmart.)
The fourth item was a Cosmic Catnip Supernova! What an interesting toy. I haven’t seen something like this before, so I’m excited to see it in use, although I plan to save it as a housewarming gift for Annabeth for when we move into our new apartment in October.
Estimated value: $5 (Source: Ebay/HEB.)
The fifth item was a Maui Meowi catnip-filled Karrot. Annabeth received one of these before, so I immediately began to wonder where she put it...it’s probably in the pile of goodies that she likes to hide under my bed. Regardless, she liked her previous one, and she seems to still like them - I let her choose one item from the box to keep right away, and this is the one she went for. The picture above is post-nibbling.
Estimated value: $6 (Source: Cattrees.com.)
The sixth and final item was a bag of Feline Greenies Dental Treats in an ocean fish flavor. Annabeth loves Greenies, so I’m sure she’ll devour these as quickly as I give them to her (which will be in moderation.) Even better, she tends to prefer fish flavors over poultry. The dental benefits are an added bonus.
Estimated value: $2 (Source: Amazon/Petco.)
Overall, the August 2016 Jacob’s Crate contained about $23 worth of items. For a box that costs $22, that’s a fair value, especially if you consider the shipping expenses.
In addition, the box had a good variety of items. The majority were toys, but there were different types of toys to satisfy different kinds of cats. The bag of treats were also a nice inclusion, especially because they are of a high-quality brand that I feel comfortable feeding my cat.
If you’re interested in trying the Jacob’s Crate, you can use coupon code “TAKE3” to get $3 off your first box.
