April 2016 "Captain America: Civil War" Marvel Collector Corps Review
I love getting the Marvel Collector Corps boxes, so I was happy to see the April box by my door. Because the box contains all exclusive items, I’m always excited to open it and see what I get.
For April, the theme is “Captain America: Civil War”. This is a well-timed theme for the movie coming out in a couple of weeks.
As always, the first items in the box are the collectible patch and pin that they provide each month. The patch this month depicts Crossbones, a villain who will appear in the movie. The pin represents Black Panther, a superhero who will be on team Iron Man. I haven’t yet found a use for these collectibles, but based simply on the nature of being collectible, it’s nice to get them each month.
I pulled out the monthly t-shirt next. I’ll admit, I’m not a big fan of the POP! Shirts, although I think they are a good item for the box to include. That having been said, I like this particular design better than some of the previous months’. The “whose side are you on?” text adds some “umph” to the shirt. I doubt I’ll wear it for much, though. As I mentioned in the video, I might make a t-shirt quilt out of these after I get enough.
The next item was a Civil War-themed lanyard. I don’t have a reason to wear lanyards often, but the info card for the box suggests that it would be a good way to collect the pins that come in each box. Thus, I might find a place to hang the lanyard and simply add the pins as they arrive.
Into the nittier-grittier items: the box features a Black Panther #1 comic book with an exclusive variant cover. Funko has been providing comics in their boxes more often, and I think it’s a good change. As a Marvel fan, it’s nice to get back to its roots by getting one of the comics. At the same time, the variant cover makes the MCC comics unique from the originals.
I like Dorbz, so I appreciated getting one this month. This Dorbz figure depicts Tony Stark in his Iron Man suit, but without the face covering. I personally would’ve preferred an item featuring a different character, especially after seeing the final item in the box. However, it’s cute regardless.
A two-pack of Civil War-themed POPs completed the box. This set features Captain America versus Iron Man and I think it’s the perfect item to complement the upcoming movie. As always, the POPs are well-made and they appear to be bobbleheads, which I always like.
I felt satisfied after unboxing the April Marvel Collector Corps. My favorite item was definitely the 2-pack of POPs that wrapped up the box. Aside from that, none of the items particularly caught my eye, but they all seemed like good choices for the box.
The only thing I’d change is that I would’ve added a different Dorbz figure. First, Tony is featured later in the box through his own POP in the 2-pack. Secondly, the box overall is heavily skewed toward Team Iron Man. Black Panther (Team Iron Man) has a comic, so it seems like a Team Captain America character should’ve been featured as a Dorbz (Bucky/The Winter Soldier, perhaps?)
Regardless of that sole misgiving, the box still met my expectations. The Marvel Collector Corps is a must-have for collectors who enjoy Marvel series and this month provided yet another great collection of items to collect. Now that I’ve finished opening the box, I just need to wait a couple of weeks to see the movie!
The next theme is going to be "Women of Power", and I'm psyched for it!
